Galapagos Day 10 (12/12): Ollantaytambo Peruvian Town and Incan Structures

This town is said to be, more than any other town, like Incan towns five centuries ago.

First view of Ollantaytambo

Narrow cobblestone streets

Grain storage high on the mountain sides

We visited this house, referred to as "middle class" by our guide.

The guinea pigs live here also. Smoked guinea pig is a staple meat.

Ancestors? I don't remember why this shrine.

Living with pets (cat with kittens and black puppy) plus food sources (guinea pigs and duck)

Terraces to hold back the erosion and increase growing areas, plus see the storage buildings.

Many people wear beautiful alpaca clothing.

Fancy covers for three-wheeled motorcycles.

Oh dear, we're going to climb these terraces!

The grain is safe from intruders when stored up there.

Obviously Incans are more comfortable with heights than I!

Town of Ollantaytambo below us.

Some of the terrace walls are very high.

With my walking stick, I'm fine with these steps!

Our overall tour guide, Alejandro.

Amazing fit to the stone work!

And then you have to climb down!

Lots of drama in this photo, but we didn't have a storm.

Back at the hotel for the evening

Performance at dinner, very nice!

Sol e Luna, our hotel, very nice!

The valley is full of gorgeous flowers!

End of Day 10. Please go on to Day 11!
