Back to Hoi An and the Thu Bon River.
Heading for the Danang Airport. This is the Dragon Bridge, Danang.
Danang: Under the dragon, young Vietnamese in exercise routines.
Danang: The Dragon Bridge, Danang.
Danang: View of two other interestingly designed bridges looking south from the Dragon Bridge.
Danang: Now look North from the Dragon Bridge to see this beautiful bridge, and the ferris wheel adding another dimension.
Danang: View from walking across the bridge.
We fly from Danang to Nha Trang, the Cam Ranh International Airport south of Nha Trang. The drive near Cam Ranh Bay shows a resort area growing quickly.
Once in Nha Trang, we head for a floating fishing village.
Nha Trang: There is also a casino resort and amusement park area (Hon Tre Island) across the bay, which I think is where the cable car is headed.
Nha Trang: In one direction it looks beautiful and a little wild, but ...
Nha Trang: We pass this island as we head for the floating fishing village.
Nha Trang: Quit a mix of houses in this fishing village!
Nha Trang: In addition, part of the village is on this floating island.
Nha Trang: Two gentlemen and dogs out on the "lawn."
Nha Trang: A dog's eye view of the village, part floating and part built up the island.
Nha Trang: These baskets are one way to move around the neighborhood.
Nha Trang: So, of course, we have to try it (in life jackets).
Nha Trang: Gorgeous view out your back door here!
Nha Trang: OTOH, here is the view in the other direction - the amusement park/casino area.
Nha Trang has a long wonderful beach front. This is Tram Huong Tower (aka Lotus Tower), a major landmark along the beach. Lovely area!
Nha Trang: So, not content with the beautiful beach road, we join locals on scooters to see what's on the other side.
Nha Trang: These women weave straw mats, some used for sleeping rather than mattresses. Their business is in the front of their house on a tiny street (sidewalk almost)
and they live in a lovely area which starts just behind the stacked mats.
Nha Trang: Photo shot while riding with my motor scooter driver - rare area without many people. It appears that so many houses, businesses, and so much living takes place on these small roads.
Nha Trang: My driver, still smiling, sort of.
Nha Trang: We are asked to buy some food to cook for lunch. I was not daring - I stuck with vegetables I recognized.
and definitely steered clear of fish...
Nha Trang: Colorful vegetables, colorful dresses: it's all there!
Nha Trang: We head to a ag village with our scooter friends.
Village of Xom Gio looks idyllic from here!
Village of Xom Gio near Nha Trang: This is the village chief/mayor. We will have lunch at his house, "helping" to cook our vegetables.
Village of Xom Gio near Nha Trang: A few of the activities in the village: weaving baskets from the bamboo.
Village of Xom Gio near Nha Trang: Tea time?
Village of Xom Gio near Nha Trang: The alter in the mayor's house.
Village of Xom Gio near Nha Trang: Early stages of the basket - preparing the bamboo. The rooster apparently has been fighting!
Village of Xom Gio near Nha Trang: This is on the way to being a cradle, I believe. Beautiful weaving!
Village of Xom Gio near Nha Trang: Yes, we were put to work on the vegetables. Tried some new greens that day, like peeled pumpkin stems.
Village of Xom Gio near Nha Trang: The Mayor.
Village of Xom Gio near Nha Trang: The Mayor's wife. Very gracious serving us a lot of lunch!
Village of Xom Gio near Nha Trang: On a walk now, and came to these women making chopsticks form bamboo.
Nha Trang: Dinner outside on the beach at Ngh Trang. The target-looking thing is a ferris wheel at the amusement park.
Ngh Trang beach road at night through a taxicab window. Festive lights and so many scooters!
From Nha Trang to Dalat: Heading up the mountain to Dalat. Pedestrian bridge that looks a bit like the Golden Gate.
From Nha Trang to Dalat: Pedestrian bridge over a river on the way to Dalat.
From Nha Trang to Dalat: These women at the bridge were, we think, collecting ginger root.
From Nha Trang to Dalat: The river from a bridge a bit farther along.
From Nha Trang to Dalat: These men were using river sand to make a morter for some steps they'd just put in.
From Nha Trang to Dalat: Lovely peaceful spot. We are entering the land of flowers in Dalat!
From Nha Trang to Dalat: The mountain drive to Dalat.
From Nha Trang to Dalat: Springs popping out along the way.
