Patagonia, Part 4

From Puerto Natales to Puerty Arenas

We make our way from Puerto Natales overland to Puerto Arenas where we'll catch the ship. On the way, we stopped in an estancia, a sheep ranch, on an island, had a tour of their operations and a wonderful lunch.

There are 7 parts to this photo tale, and all seven show up as links on the left. If your browser doesn't show those links, use the footer.

Puerto Natales is a lovely little town with beautiful lake and mountain views. We were a bit tired when we got there!

The views across the street from our hotel were postcard-pretty.

and again

But yeah, I know, this is one two many photos of the same thing.

...and after many tries, I finally got a sort-of-decent photo of black-necked swans.

Homage to the Wind statue in Puerto Natales.

Drive to Puerto Arenas

We drove by these gauchos moving cattle. Again I thought of Western Nebraska, but the gaucho hat and saddle are quite different than we see in NE.

Just showing off a bit for us - he did a few "horse tricks."

The Estancia

(and restuarant extraordinary - and farm equipment graveyard).

One of us tries a hand a sheep dipping

Very impressive shearing by hand with large scissor-type shears (above and below)!

Very interesting set of ancient tractors, just sitting around!

Small demo of the use of dogs and a horse to herd sheep.

A little outpost of civilization

We arrive at Puerto Arenas!

And now for the four days on the ship!
