Patagonia, Part 1

Buenos Aires to Ushuaia through Chilean Fjords

Overview: We arrive in Buenos Aires in the morning, spend 2 days in Buenos Aires, then fly south to El Calafate near the spectacular Pereto Moreno Glacier. By vehicle, we head into Chile and the amazing Torres del Paine National Park for a few days, visiting spectacular and untouched mountains, glaciers, and waterfalls, with a horse back ride for added fun! We were on a ship for 4 days traversing the Chilean Fjords, Magellen Strait, Beagle Channel, Glacier Valley, and our southern point, Cape Horne. A day in Ushuaia (claiming the title of the southern-most city in the world) and finally, back to Buenos Aires. There are a lot of photos here, and I've tried to set it up so that you don't have to tab through them, and can read my occasional observations along the way.

There are 7 parts to this photo tale, and all seven show up as links on the left. If your browser doesn't show those links, please use the footer.

Buenos Aires feels a bit like a European city.

Ten stories of the much-beloved Eva Peron welcomes us.

Said to be the widest avenue in the world, the "9 de Julio."

The next set of photos are from our visit to the magnificent Opera House, the Teatro Colón.

Cupid whispers to Venus!

The amazing box seats had terrible views of the stage - to be seen, not to see!

The occupant's family is responsible for the upkeep. Most were kept in great shape, a few needed some tending.

Eve Peron's family grave.

It was a hot day, so we rest by the monuments.

Looking inside one of the sepulchers - it appears that a mother and child are buried here.

We finished the afternoon by exploring the area

The Buenos Aires soccer stadium.

At the presidential center, we came on a peaceful demonstration for war veterans

The Casa Rosada, presidential palace with balconies where presidents give speeches from the balconies.

Historic Restaurant near the Presidential Palace, perhaps the "London City" but I'm not sure of the name.

We visited a home in Buenos Aires for a great meal!

Nice home and lovely hostess was prepared to feed us all. We pretended to help.
